The word "Wenik" is Russian and means birch branch, twig or rod. During a Wenik infusion, a lot of water with birch twigs is spread over the hot stones of the sauna heater. The soaked birch branches give off a pleasant woody scent as they are waved around and distribute the warm air in the sauna.
The ritual is divided into three sauna sessions. In the first sauna session, a powerful Wenik infusion is made, which really gets you sweating. This is started in the classic way with a sip of vodka, accompanied by introductory explanations from the Banschikis. The second session is followed by the traditional Wenik massage, a tapping of the body with fresh birch branches. In the third session, the body is rubbed with a nourishing salt and honey scrub before the infusion, which cleanses and nourishes the skin. During the breaks between sauna sessions, you can enjoy fruit and tea in the anteroom of the banya in a convivial atmosphere.
No, the birch twigs are soaked in water beforehand. In addition, the intensity of the tapping is adapted to personal sensation. Tapping stimulates blood circulation and leaves you with a pleasant feeling of relaxation.
The essential oils contained in birch leaves are known for their beneficial, nourishing and antimicrobial properties. By rolling the weniks on the body, the valuable aromatic substances can penetrate the skin pores. Tapping with the birch fronds is both a massage and aromatherapy.
