From December 1: Please bring your own bath towel!
The russian banya is reserved for a special wenik ritual on Friday, November 28th, from 7:00 PM to 9:15 PM. Thank you for your understanding!
A little less well known than Finnish sauna culture, but just as old and popular is the Russian sauna tradition. The banya at sole uno is the first of its kind in Switzerland. The wood of the authentic log cabin comes from deep in the forests of Siberia.
The banya is a traditional Russian bathing room that has been valued for centuries as a place to cleanse, maintain health and socialize. In contrast to the Finnish sauna, the temperature is somewhat lower (approx. 70-80 °C), but the humidity is significantly higher. Typically, birch branches ("weniks") are used to create fragrant, moist steam during the infusion.
The 70 m² log cabin, built true to the original, comes from Siberia, where the slow-growing pine wood is particularly well suited for such a sauna construction. Consisting of a spacious anteroom or relaxation room with table and benches and the actual 45 m² sweating room, the bathhouse offers space for around 50 people and provides a unique sauna experience with its authentic atmosphere. Birch infusions take place several times a day, filling the room with aromatic steam.
The word wenik is Russian and means birch branch, twig or rod. The wenik infusion is a typical element of the Russian banya tradition. Dried birch twigs ("weniks") are soaked in warm water and waved over the stove by the sauna master ("banshiki"). Drops of water evaporate on the hot stones, leaves swirl through the air - the result is an intense steam with a fresh birch aroma, which is distributed throughout the room and can be felt as a pleasantly warm wave. If you wish, you can also experience the gentle tapping with the branches on your back, which promotes circulation and leaves a pleasantly invigorating feeling.
The Wenik infusions take place several times a day as part of the regular infusion program and are open to all guests. The Wenik ritual, on the other hand, is a special experience lasting around two hours in a small group (6 to max. 12 people). It can be booked twice a week and follows a fixed, authentic program. During this time, the banya is reserved exclusively for the ritual participants.
The essential oils contained in birch leaves are known for their soothing, nourishing and antimicrobial properties. Tapping with birch leaves is both a massage and aromatherapy.
The combination of heat, moisture and birch aroma promotes blood circulation, relaxes the muscles, cleanses the skin and supports detoxification. A regular visit to the banya also strengthens the immune system and provides deep relaxation. Ideal for anyone who prefers a less dry, somewhat milder heat and appreciates the beneficial effect of moist heat on the skin and respiratory tract.
